Run locally. No cloud required. Download v3.1.2 from nodered.org (then) run nodered in PowerShell and check port 1880.

Grafana + Windows Agent works too. Better for persistent caching and alerts. Grab Grafana 10.4.3 from grafana.com.

Use the built-in Windows service installer. Then verify with Get-Service grafana-server.

Avoid those unofficial ‘Obernaft desktop wrappers’ on Reddit or random forums. They’re unsigned. They steal credentials.

And they don’t even support the API.

If you need offline reliability → use Node-RED. If you need local alerting and caching → use Grafana. If you just need basic monitoring with decent internet → stick with web Obernaft.

I’ve seen the same five errors show up in every Obernaft support thread.

Blank dashboard? Clear your cache and cookies. Then disable ad blockers.

They love to kill Obernaft’s UI. And check CSP headers in DevTools Network tab. Yes, really.

Audio alerts not firing? Go to Windows Sound Settings → App volume and device preferences. Make sure Obernaft is unmuted.

And set it to the right output device. Not your Bluetooth headset. Your main speakers.

PDF exports coming out scrambled? Ditch the system print dialog. Use Obernaft’s native export button instead.
